Sister Time, Civil War Tours, & Cupcakes = A Fabulous Weekend! :)

Shelby spent the weekend with me. It was a much-needed morale boost for both of us. Sister time is the best!
Fall Hollow

Carnton Plantation: This house was used as a Confederate field hospital during the battle of Franklin in November 1864. There are still blood stains on the hardwood floors upstairs where the surgeons worked.
Several Confederate generals who were killed in the battle were brought to this back porch for the men to pay their respects before burial.

"He lost his life from severe exposure in the performance of his duty. And died in the hope of a joyful resurrection through Christ, the Captain of his Salvation."
Many of the tombstones had beautiful engravings and inscriptions.

This cabin was brought to the Carter property in recent years from another site, but resembles what a slave cabin would have looked like at that time.
Battle damage
The battle of Franklin raged in the Carter family's backyard for 45 minutes. The house and surrounding outbuildings still bear the marks of the battle 146 years later. The Carter family hid in their basement during the battle.
