9/11/01 Memorial

The World War II museum had a special 9/11 exhibit upstairs. Until I toured the exhibit, my view of 9/11 had always filtered through a television or computer screen. It was sobering to see items from that terrible day up close. I don't suppose anyone will ever forget where they were when they heard the news.

Fragment of the antenna that once topped the North Tower (WTC 1). Including the antenna, the North Tower reached a height of 1,368 feet.

Each of the twin towers contained three emergency stairwells located around the building's center core. This sign came from Stairwell B in one of the towers.

Landing gear assembly from American Airlines Flight 11. This piece was recovered two blocks from the World Trade Center. The landing gear crashed through the two upper floors of a store, which had yet to open for the day.

Ambulance door found at Ground Zero

Numerous government offices in 6 World Trade Center lost valuable criminal evidence and paperwork. Several hundred guns were recovered at Ground Zero or the Fresh Kills landfill. They ranged from small caliber semiautomatic pistols to assault rifles.
