Virginia City, MT

September 22nd, 2012
On the second day of our road trip, Shelby and I toured Virginia City, Montana.

~Mailing postcards~
We had planned to take a stagecoach ride, but upon arriving in town, were informed that the stagecoach season had ended the weekend prior. We were disappointed, but now have an excuse to return! :)

Walking around the ghost town was like being on the set of Bonanza or Gunsmoke. I expected Marshal Matt Dillon to walk around the corner at any moment! ;)

This store-front put the town in perspective for me. When Virginia City was bustling with commerce and stagecoaches were stirring up dust in the streets, Abraham Lincoln was president and the Civil War was raging in the south and east. It was humbling to wander amongst the buildings and consider all the time that had passed and the people who had lived and died.
