Gifts 53-60

In the midst of the tragedy, grief, and fear in our nation this past week, it is easy to forget the Giver of every good and perfect gift.

It is easy to become overwhelmed.

It is easy to be frightened.

It is easy to be angry, to cast blame, and to speculate.

It is easy to give up.

And so I count; to gain strength to stand in the midst of the battle against darkness, not shrinking back; to remember; to be thankful; to choose love, compassion, and respect; to seek to overcome evil with good.

1,000 Gifts, continued...
A Holy Experience
1,000 Gifts book

53) Stories of commitment and the true kind of love that takes care of others, no matter what. The love that causes people to step outside of themselves, casting self-absorption aside. The simple love of, 'I rejoice when you are happy, and I hurt when you are suffering'.  Page 3: Joyful Book 'Until I Say Good-Bye' Tapped Out With a Thumb on iPhone - ABC News

54) Listening to new information and opinions--It helps maintain curiosity, fosters creativity, and serves as a reminder that the world most certainly does not revolve around us.

55) Bakeries--The aroma of fresh-baked bread, frosted pink lemonade cupcakes, chocolate peppermint icing, the sound of whisks against ceramic mixing bowls; a gift in life of the sweetest variety! Someday I want to visit Primrose Bakery in London, Ladurée in Paris, Tartine Bakery and Cafe in San Francisco, and Balthazar Bakery in New York City. :)

56) The scent of a wisteria bush, signaling that spring has arrived in earnest.
57) The feeling of a cool breeze dancing across my face when I am running. Just when passing out right there on the ground seems imminent, a breeze comes along and offers refreshment.

58) The delicious scent of approaching rain after a summer-long drought. The first drops land, sending up clouds of dust from the thirsty earth. I step outside, close my eyes, turn my face to the clouds, and spin in circles. As rain streams down my face, I am reminded of God's perfect timing and provision.

59) Neon-colored Sharpie markers--because why would anyone write with the usual colors when given the option of hot pink, lime green, or electric blue?

60) Finding a bag of dark chocolate that had been forgotten. That happened to me this afternoon. It was like discovering buried treausure. A great moment, really. :)
