As I went on a three-mile walk this afternoon, hymns were blasting on my ipod; an attempt to drown out the suffering, fear, and chaos in this world, if only for 45 minutes.
As tears of sadness for the people who will not get to hug their loved ones tonight, and for those who lost limbs and suffered other injuries, stung my eyes; 'Victory in Jesus', 'The Lord is My Light', 'I Know That My Redeemer Lives', 'How Deep The Father's Love For Us', and other songs reminded me of the power of God and His great mercy.
The mangled bodies lying in the street. Blood pooling on the sidwalk. The cries of the injured. The flashing lights and sound of sirens screaming. The paramedics, policemen, firefighters, and civilians rushing to help. Terror and pain reminding us that Satan is on the prowl, devouring.
It is horrible.
But, someday, the Lord will return. This painful, laboring, suffering existence on earth will end. He has triumphed over death. He has won the war.
"O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." -I Corinthians 15:55-58
