A Holy Experience

November--a month of thanksgiving

November 1st: Three gifts eaten

255. Shortbread cookies from Panera Bread
256. Homemade blueberry muffins dipped in butter and sprinkled with sugar on top
257. Daily bread, provided by God, plenty

November 2nd: Three gifts worn

258. A necklace with a silver circle pendant from my kindred spirit, signifying our friendship
259. Fleece vest, blue, warm, keeps out the chill when I run
260. A well-worn sweatshirt from Yellowstone; a reminder of my first trip to Wyoming and Montana in 2005

November 3rd: Three gifts that start with N

261. Nutella--Need I say more?
262. Night sky, dark, yet revealing the stars, moon, Milky Way, all of God's handiwork in the heavens
263. Naps, needed, refreshing

November 4th: A gift gathered, given, good

264. Dandelions, gathered in bunches, making a wish, fluff floating away
265. Giving the benefit of the doubt, assuming the best, rather than the worst, living in the light
266. Godly parents, good, lasting, stabilizing, solid foundation

November 5th: Three gifts acorn-small

267. Berries, blue, black, straw, rasp, huckle, boysen, delightful
268. Gravel on a country road, dusty, leading home
269. Toes, tiny but important; break one and you find out real fast how important they are

November 6th: Three gifts government

270. Providing stability when managed properly
271. Reminder that my citizenship is in heaven
272. Reminder that earthly kingdoms rise and fall, yet God remains

November 7th: Three gifts from my window

273. Chickens, contentedly eating corn and wandering around looking for bugs to eat, providing farm fresh eggs
274. View of the pasture, happy childhood memories of days spent playing in the tall grass and riding horses with my sister
275. Excellent view in the evening of the sun slipping below the horizon, sky blazing pink and orange

November 8th: A gift sweet, salty, sipped

276. Iced tea, sweet, the south in a glass
277. Swimming in the ocean, salty waves, tasting the sense of freedom that comes from the sea
278. Peppermint hot cocoa, sipped, a reminder that Christmas is on its way

November 9th: Three gifts harvest

279. People choosing to follow Christ, God's harvest
280. Fields of cotton, the snow of the south
281. The harvest of stability, contentment, laughter, and deep, abiding love that comes from the years spent building and maintaining good relationships

November 10th: Three gifts found in Bible reading

282. The story of Job, a man who lost his children, possessions, and health, yet was able to question God without losing his faith
283. The peace that comes from reading God's words, His letter to the world
284. Reading the stories of God's faithfulness in the lives of Joseph, Esther, David, Abraham, Ruth, Noah, Elijah, Mary, Paul, and the list goes on and on--as the world crumbles around me, I read their stories; hope is renewed, courage strengthened.

November 11th: Three gifts of remembrance

285. The service, sacrifice, and endurance of our veterans--Grandpa W. (Army--Korea & Germany), Grandpa M. (Air Force--Okinawa, Thailand, Vietnam, & Greenland), Uncle David (Air Force), Uncle Donald (WW II Navy; survived the sinking of three ships), cousin Ben (currently serving in the Navy), Mr. Moseley (USS Indianapolis survivor), Brother Ross (WW II fighter pilot), and Mr. Tom Griffin (Doolittle Raider).
286. Remembering the times God has brought me through the fire, amazed at His power and timing
287. Good memories, a happy remembrance

November 12th: Three gifts at noon

288. Lunch, one of the best moments of each day
289. Sunshine overhead, warming the winter
290. A break from the work day   

November 13th: Three gifts behind a door

291. The feeling of peace and acceptance when I open the door and step into one of my many homes scattered around the nation---Mom and Dad, Shelby, grandparents, friends.
292. The dogs at animal shelters, opening the door, bringing home a loyal companion
293. Every nation, every culture, every era behind the door of the local library

November 14th: Three gifts silent

294. Solitude, silence with myself
295. Stepping outside after a snowfall, noise muffled in a big way by tiny snowflakes
296. Driving early in the morning, empty roads, world still fast asleep

November 15th: Three gifts golden

297. Flying into the morning; the dark, shadowed globe slowly turning to gold
298. Golden retrievers, cheerful, sunny dogs, bringers of light
299. Corn picked fresh from the field

November 16th: Three gifts hard eucharisteo

300. Good memories that have been darkened by tragedy one year later; refusing to forget the good
301. Working through pain
302. Gaining strength through admitting weaknesses

November 17th: Three gifts of laughter

303. The happy connection that is made when strangers laugh together
304. Stories from childhood; cracking up at the funny and absurd memories
305. Indulging in a hearty chuckle; laughing away the darkness

November 18th: A gift made, shared, passed on

306. Quilts handmade by my grandmas
307. Home-cooked meal, shared, enjoyment multiplied
308. Experience of overcoming a learning struggle; hope passed on to weary minds and discouraged spirits

November 19th: Three gifts autumn

309. Apples in all their glory--pies, crisps, cider--a favorite fruit
310. The scent of woodsmoke in the air
311. Sweater weather, cool enough to need a sleeve, but not freezing

November 20th: Three gifts of traditions

312. Decorating the Christmas tree with my sister the day after Thanksgiving when we were kids; bright, shiny ornaments; candy canes; flinging silver tinsel at the evergreen boughs
313. Watching It's A Wonderful Life every Christmas Eve
314. Eating a muffin or lemon bar at Modica Market in Seaside with my grandparents

November 21st: Three gifts family

315. The special bond of siblings, shared history, the people who have known you since the beginning
316. A sense of belonging; being wanted and accepted
317. The addition of new family members throughout the years; new personalities, new ideas, new opinions

November 22nd: Three gifts grateful

318. Two childhoods redeemed by God from abuse and neglect; no words adequate to thank God for what He did in their lives, just my relieved soul silently whispering "thank you" over and over again
319. Many years spent with the companionship of a good dog
320. The joy of the treasure hunt, observing God's gifts, seeking ways to express gratitude

November 23rd: Three gifts only in Christ

321. A friend who will listen, anytime, anywhere
322. The knowledge that no matter what happens in my life, I have someone who will never, ever abandon me or forget me
323. The priceless gift of always having someone to talk to; a big deal for a person like me who needs to talk out her thoughts, ideas, and feelings

November 24th: Three gifts humble

324. A quiet, simple, kind life
325. Anonymous acts of kindness and generosity
326. Babies, innocent, peaceful, gentle

November 25th: Three gifts ugly-beautiful

327. Mud-covered children, dirty, happily embracing the earth God created
328. A bad situation transformed by forgiveness
329. The son of God's sacrifice on the cross

November 26th: Three gifts preparing

330. An adventure in Europe with a friend, planning, preparing, dreaming
331. Cooking, stirring, setting the table for a Thanksgiving feast
332. In the balance, anticipating a new job in a different state

November 27th: A gift handmade, held, happy

333. Scarves knitted by my sister, handmade, each one unique
334. An issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine; holding a glimpse of the entire world in my hands
335. Finding the perfect Christmas gift for a friend, happy to know it will bring a smile

November 28th: Three gifts in community

336. Neighbors helping each other, willing hands, open hearts
337. Shared memories, a connection to the past
338. Finding a home wherever I go, a community of strangers who become friends

November 29th: Three gifts red

339. Radio Flyer wagons, turning into a covered wagon, ship, train, or whatever the imagination dreams up
340. Santa Claus hats, merry and jolly
341. Bright red noses, frosty from the cold, fun in the snow

November 30th: Three gifts astonishing

342. Sunrises and sunsets--no matter how many I see, they always amaze and delight
343. Baby birds still in the nest, pink, fluffy feathers sprouting
344. Horses galloping across a pasture, truly one of the most majestic sights on this earth
