A Morning Stroll

A Saturday morning stroll to the park and old Council Square takes me down a steep cobblestone street.

I walk past crumbling stone buildings, some dating back to the 15th century.

The Council Square---This has been the place for annual markets since 1364.
"The Council House was built in 1420. The tower, called the Trumpets Tower, is in fact much older, and was once a watchtower for approaching barbarians before being incorporated into the main building. It was the place where an alarm was sounded when danger menaced the city." (Romanian Tourism)

On Saturday mornings, I often stop at a German bakery and order bruschetta and a Berliner (doughnut filled with raspberry jam and sprinkled with powdered sugar).

On this particular Saturday, I enjoyed watching a group of little boys chase the pigeons.
Young children delight in life, fresh air, and chasing birds---no matter their culture or nationality.

Black Church---Construction began in 1380.

This is my favorite tree in the park.
Every day in the park, groups of older men gather to play chess.
