Living History Event---September 2009

Dad, Jenny, and I camped Friday night at a living history event. A thunderstorm rolled in at 1:00 in the morning and we soon discovered that our tent leaked in every place imaginable! We proceeded to move our cots eight times in vain attempts to find dry spots. We finally gave up, settled for the least leaky places, and went to sleep. We awoke a few hours later to wet sleeping bags and blankets. :) It was actually a fun experience...we would burst into peals of laughter every few minutes when one of us would say, "Oh no! It's raining on me again!". I love adventures! :)
As Dave Barry once said, "Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent. " :)

My Scooby Doo blanket kept me from getting completely soaked. :)

Dad's expression says it all! :)

Look at the rain soaking through the tent wall!

Jenny and I went inside the museum Friday night. As we rounded the corner, I exclaimed, "There's a person in that room!", and Jenny screamed. Keep in mind, all the lights were out and no one was around. Now I know what it feels like to nearly die from fright! ;)

There were more reenactors this year and more time periods represented. As always, it was great fun and I can't wait 'til next year! Next time, I'll come prepared with an umbrella to attach to my cot. :)

"The challenge of history is to recover the past and introduce it to the present." ~David Thelen

"Professor Johnston often said that if you didn't know history, you didn't know anything. You were a leaf that didn't know it was part of a tree." ~Michael Crichton, Timeline

"A mere compilation of facts presents only the skeleton of History; we do but little for her if we cannot invest her with life, clothe her in the habiliments of her day, and enable her to call forth the sympathies of succeeding generations." ~Hannah Farnham Lee
