Happy Valentine's Day!

February 14th, 2013

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
This is a great holiday centered around flowers and chocolate; what's not to love? :)
Whether you are celebrating the mushy, romantic kind of love most often associated with Valentine's Day, the enduring love of family, or the special bond that exists between best friends, I wish you a joyful day.

Celebrate life and the people you love.
Buy flowers for someone.
Eat chocolate--we don't need a reason to eat chocolate, but Valentine's Day makes it more official. :)
Reflect on ways to become more Christ-like in your love for others.
Follow your heart, but take your brain with you.
Tell people every day that you love them. Someday, either they will no longer be here, or you won't.
Don't leave things unsaid, and don't assume people know how you feel about them.

God is love.

Love is the ache in your heart when you miss so many people around the world, but are still thankful for the ache because it reminds you of how blessed you are to have people in your life who make saying goodbye so hard.

Perfect love casts out fear.
I John 4:18

Love is compassionate and gentle.

Love is a best friend
who runs to you in the airport for
a long-awaited hug after
months of being apart.
Love is supportive, encouraging, and faithful.

Love is always interesting.
Love reminds and redirects.
Love is commitment.
Love crosses all boundaries and makes family out of strangers.

Love looks out for the needs of others.
Love has perfect timing.
Love is accepting, patient, understanding, and gracious.
"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
I Corinthians 13:7

Love is unique.
Love makes the most difficult journeys bearable, the most boring journeys tolerable, and the most amazing journeys even more memorable.
Love is not selfish, controlling, jealous, arrogant, resentful, irritable, or enslaving.
This sums up how I feel about the friends I have made throughout the years. We are a family. We love deeply. We pick up right where we left off after months or even years of separation. Some of us travel together. Some of us haven't seen each other face-to-face in a long time. Some of us are young. Some of us are old. Some of us have known each other since we were little kids. Some of us have never met in person. Yet we are connected by the bond of friendship that transcends time, distance, and personal differences. Now that is a reason to celebrate the power of love! :)
